JD Sports prepares stores for reopening
JD Sports has unveiled plans for the reopening of its store estate in England an Northern Ireland following the easing of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions on the retail sector.
The sportswear retailer said it will reopen all 309 of its JD stores in England on 15 June whether they be in shopping centres, high streets or retail park locations. The company also intends to open its high street and “open air” stores in Northern Ireland from 12 June, although stores situated in shopping centres will remain closed in line with the devolved government’s guidance.
Staff have been preparing their respective stores for reopening with new Covid-19 health and safety measures in place.
Peter Cowgill, JD Sports executive chairman, said: “Following 12 weeks of lockdown, we recognise the continued importance of maintaining social distancing and a safe environment in which to work and shop, and therefore have taken all necessary steps and precautions to give our staff and customers the confidence that they can safely return to our stores. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all JD employees who have worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic in maintaining our online service to consumers.”
