Go Outdoors trials body worn cameras in store

Go Outdoors has begun a trial of body-worn cameras at its store in Stoke as it looks to to find new ways to deter theft and maintain the safety of store staff.

The trial comes after Go Outdoors announced its partnership with The Retail Trust, the charity that works to protect the lives of retail staff.

Go Outdoors  said it is committed to testing and implementing solutions that will foster a safer shopping experience for staff and customers. The results of the trial will be used  to inform future decisions on the use of the technology at the company’s locations across the UK.

Claire Cowie, Stoke store manager, said: “Body cameras have been a game-changer. They’ve not only deterred theft but also increased confidence amongst staff that they are safe when they come to work.

“The added layer of protection has been well received by our genuine customers. It’s brought a new level of trust and transparency to our store.

“Crucially, the business has been proactive in equipping us with these tools, enabling us to react swiftly and effectively to the concerning increase in retail crime we’ve faced.”

The news comes after the British Retail Consortium warned in January that retail crime was at its highest level on record with figures showing that incidents of violence and abuse in 2023/24 rose to over 2,000 per day from 1,300 in the prior year.
