Frasers Group to acquire market-leading Dutch sporting retailer Twin Sport

Frasers Group plc (“Frasers” or the “Group”) announces that it has entered into a binding agreement to acquire all shares in Twin Sport Holding B.V. (“Twin Sport”), one of the leading omnichannel sports retailers in the Netherlands.

Twin Sport is part of the Intersport franchise, which is owned by EKS Netherlands (previously Euretco). Twin Sport has over 30 years’ expertise in sports retail, with 17 stores in prominent retail destinations across the Netherlands and a strong online presence, generating revenue of approximately €75M (incl. VAT) in FY2023.

Separately, Frasers is also in advanced negotiations to acquire over 10 former retail locations of sports retailer, Sprinter, that are located across the Netherlands.

The acquisition of Twin Sport and the former Sprinter stores (TBC) will further grow Frasers’ sports retail footprint in the Netherlands, where it currently operates five stores under the Sports World brand, as well as strengthen its presence in the Benelux market – a key market for the Group. Following an appropriate period of integration, these locations will be incorporated into Sports Direct’s ecosystem.

Ger Wright, Managing Director Sport at Frasers Group said: “We are thrilled to be acquiring Twin Sport. This acquisition accelerates Sports Direct’s ambition to become the leading sporting goods retailer in EMEA. As part of Frasers, Twin Sport will benefit from our Elevation Strategy, our ongoing investment in omnichannel retail capabilities, and the incredible Sports Direct brand ecosystem. Our unparalleled relationships with global brands like Nike and Adidas, as well as our partnerships with beloved local brands, will enhance Twin Sport’s offering for consumers.”

Completion of the Twin Sport transaction will be subject to Dutch merger control clearance from the Dutch competition authority (ACM).
