Decathlon appoints new chief executive
Decathlon has appointed Javier López as its new chief executive.
Having worked for 26 years with the sporting goods retailer, López has served in numerous positions within digital, logistics and retail. This has included heading up Decathlon Germany from 2012 to 2015 and serving as the chief executive of Decathlon Spain for seven years.
After delivering strong growth in Spain, he was appointed to the position of global chief value chain officer in 2022.
As chief executive, López has succeeded Barbara Martin Coppola who has worked in the role for the last three years during which time the retailer evolved its brand identity and enhanced the customer experience, both in store and online. Ecommerce now accounts for 20% of group revenue.
Never Miss a Retail Update!It has also streamlined its brand portfolio and strengthened partnerships with international athletes and major global sports events, including the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where Decathlon designed the official volunteer uniforms.
Decathlon is now entering a new phase where it will work to strengthen its competitiveness and growth, while stepping up its actions to promote access to sport and its universal values wherever it operates.
