New figures have revealed that during the week of Chinese New Year, sales to Chinese shoppers in the London West End shopping district were up 153.8% year-on-year.
The week commencing 23 January also saw a 17.2% increase on the previous week as Chinese spend increased over the New Year celebrations.
In addition, average transaction value was up 46.6% year-on-year whilst total transactions climbed by 73.1%.
Jace Tyrrell, chief executive of New West End Company, said: “The West End’s iconic shopping streets are popular year-round with Chinese visitors to London looking for retail therapy. However, we traditionally see a surge in Chinese spend over the New Year celebratory period, and this year did not fail to disappoint.”
