Planning consent secured for regeneration project at Crowngate Shopping Centre

The Crown Estate has gained approval to transform Angel Place, part of Friary Walk at the Crowngate Shopping Centre in Worcester, with a £1.5 million investment.

The regeneration plan includes the refurbishment of the façade and main entrance to Friary Walk, which is home to retailers such as New Look, Mothercare and Vision Express. The frontage of Angel Place will be upgraded in a traditional style in keeping with the surrounding architecture.

The project will also see the reconfiguration of units within Friary Walk to attract a mix of new businesses including retailers and restaurants.

The works are expected to commence in early 2018.

Nicole Campbell, asset manager at The Crown Estate, said: “We are pleased to have secured consent for this important regeneration project. It is a key part of our long-term vision to ensure Crowngate remains a leading shopping destination and will also help to preserve the character of the historic city. The regeneration will attract a more diverse mix of occupiers, enhancing what is already on offer at Friary Walk, as well as creating new job opportunities for the city of Worcester.”

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, The Crowngate Shopping Centre attracts 13 million shoppers a year.
