London’s West End to launch world’s first ‘smart street’
New West End Company is set to launch what it calls the world’s first ‘smart street’ in London’s West End this June.
The company, which represents the West End shopping district, said Bird Street will be transformed into an “oasis” of the latest technology and innovation, cutting-edge fashion and sustainability.
Delivered in partnership with Appear Here, the online marketplace for short-term retail, Bird Street will be home to a revolving mix of pioneering pop-ups showcasing products ranging from fashion and wearable technology to dining innovation. It will also be a space for the latest smart brands to launch.
The tech-friendly, traffic-free hub off Oxford Street will also feature a number of sustainable technologies such as Pavegen, which generates electricity and data from footfall, and Airlite’s air purifying paint.
The project is being launched with funding from Transport for London.
