JD Sports to double its presence at Bullring & Grand Central

JD Sports is to more than double its presence in Bullring & Grand Central by opening a new 27,500 square foot store on the lower level.

The move will enable the sportswear retailer to stock more ranges from brands such as Nike, Adidas, Under Armour and Converse across the footwear, fashion, and accessories categories.

Set to open in summer 2023, the store will create more than 40 new jobs for people in the local area.

James Air, head of group acquisitions at JD, said: “We have always been really pleased with how much our customers love JD in Birmingham. I have no doubt that our new Bullring store will be one of the very best regional flagships in the country. Many thanks to Hammerson and the Bullring team for working with us on this exciting project.”

The news follows last November’s announcement that M&S and TOCA Social will be launching new stores at Bullring. Meanwhile designer fashion brand Tessuti will open its largest store in the West Midlands at the centre in 2023.

Toby Tait, director asset management at Hammerson, said: “JD Sports more than doubling the size of its store is a clear indication of the confidence brands have in Bullring as Birmingham’s premier retail and leisure destination. The work we do to drive customer engagement through events, pop-ups and collaborations gives brands confidence to continue to invest in this key national destination, maintaining and growing our relevance as customer habits change.”
