Grand Central’s New Street Mall to get £2m upgrade

Hammerson is planning a £2 million upgrade to New Street Mall which is part of Birmingham’s Grand Central shopping centre.

The first phase of the project will include making the entrance to Grand Central more vibrant and engaging for visitors, introducing new seating in the internal walkway, and installing new innovative lighting.  There will also be new pilaster treatments to revitalise the centre’s store fronts.

Conrad Bacon, Hammerson portfolio director, said: “This £2 million project will transform New Street Mall and Grand Central, creating a fresh and dynamic entrance, with an eye-catching double-height atrium.

Across our portfolio, we’re always looking at ways to improve the experience for our partners and customers, and this is a fantastic example of that. Bullring and Grand Central is one of the UK’s best retail and leisure destinations.”

Grand Central has attracted a number of new brands in 2019 including Herman Ze German, Slim Chickens and Kitty Café. In addition, designer childrenswear retailer Base will  joining the line-up in October.
