Four in a row for the Federation of Independent Retailers

For the fourth year running, the Federation of Independent Retailers (the Fed) has recovered more than £100,000 for its members in the news trade.

The Fed’s Contact Centre reached the milestone in just seven months in 2023, breaking all previous records.

In this time period, the Contact Centre dealt with over 9,000 calls from members reporting issues with their news wholesaler.

The money recovered relates predominantly to missing credits and voucher submissions, with the biggest single amount standing at £13,000.

Contact Centre manager Andrew Williamson said: “The team is committed to ensuring the best possible outcome for our members at all times and they leave no stone unturned when attempting to resolve an issue.

“Reaching this significant milestone for the fourth year in a row is a fantastic achievement and something we are all immensely proud of.”

The Fed’s National President Muntazir Dipoti added: “With the majority of our members being smaller newsagents and convenience stores, every penny counts during these difficult trading times.

“The work that our Contact Centre team does on a daily basis to get renumeration for members who would otherwise be unfairly out of pocket is exemplary and much appreciated.”

Founded in 1919, The Fed is one of the largest employers’ associations, supporting over 10,000 independent retailers and small businesses.
