Centre:mk hails opening of biggest store in 25 years

Centre:mk has seen the opening of its biggest store in 25 years with the launch of Primark’s new 75,000 square foot shop this month.

Situated in the centre’s former BHS unit on Silbury Arcade, the new shop is in Primark’s new store format and stocks the retailer’s entire range of womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and homewares.

Simon Gibbs, Primark’s retail director for the UK & Northern Europe, said: “We’re delighted to open a second Milton Keynes store in centre:mk offering customers even more amazing fashion at amazing prices. Today’s opening brings the number of Primark stores to 189 in the UK and 370 internationally and we look forward to continued growth.”

The opening follows a survey of Centre:mk’s customers which found that Primark was the most popular brand when shoppers were asked which brands they would like to join the line-up at the centre.

Ed Sellick, on behalf of Centre:mk joint owners, Hermes Investment Management and AustralianSuper, said: “The opening of Primark is a huge milestone and highlights the dedication to our strategy of ‘reimagining an icon’ that has seen over £60 million investment across the shopping destination since 2016.

“Primark joins Centre:mk as the most requested brand by customers, and so we are thrilled to officially announce the opening of this firm fashion favourite.”

Centre:mk has recently launched a 1,400 space new technological multi-storey car park. Other investments in recent years include a £10 million refurbishment of Sunset Walk and the introduction of an award-winning guest services area.

Pam Gosal, head of economy and culture at Milton Keynes Council, said: “Primark’s decision to open in the heart of the city confirms Milton Keynes retail dominance in the South East. The store will be celebrated by our locals as well as the thousands of regional visitors we attract and will be complemented by the existing retail offer available throughout centre:mk. Investments of this nature reflect the confidence that businesses continue to have in the Milton Keynes economy.”
