Ards reports footfall boost in record year
The Ards Shopping Centre in Northern Ireland’s Newtownards has seen a sizeable increase in footfall following the addition of retailers JD Sports and TK Maxx in September.
The new retailers have joined the line-up as part of a £7 million redevelopment of the Belfast Office Properties owned centre that includes an additional large retail unit and a cafe.
Footfall increased by 16% year-on-year over the three-month period from September to November. Overall figures reflect a strong year for Ards, which has recorded its highest number of total visitors with an increase of 5% year-on-year.
The centre has seen 45,000 square feet of new retail and leisure being created over the past 12 months, including the signings of B&M Bargains, Warren James, and an upsized store for Argento that doubled the size of its previous unit.
Paul Devlin of Belfast Office Properties said: “It has been a superb year for Ards and everyone involved with the shopping centre. Our strategy to develop the existing offer has been met with high demand from major UK brands, who have come on board and had a direct impact on footfall.
“Our ongoing investment means that the enhancements to Ards will continue into the new year and ensure that it remains the region’s strongest performing shopping destination. 2017 will be another key year for Ards.”
