Asda is the third largest supermarket chain in Britain and aims to offer low and competitive prices, as well as top name brands and high levels of quality.
The company dates back to 1949 when it was founded following a series of mergers, led by the Asquith family and
Sir Noel Stockdale. It was publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange until 1999 and was subsequently purchased by US retail giant
Walmart for £6.7 billion.
Asda and its 140,000 colleagues help serve more than 18 million customers who shop in their stores each week. These stores come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from supercentres to petrol stations. Asda also provides insurance assistance and is a mobile phone provider too.
Launched in 1989,
George is the company’s clothing range which is now sold in 560 stores and through its dedicated website. It has grown at a very fast rate and now serves over 800,000 customers each week. It has a reputation for quality, style and value, with the aim of being inspirational as well as affordable for families all over the country. These same values were carried through with the launch of George Home in 2014.

Ownership
Asda was listed on the London Stock Exchange until 1999 when they were purchased by Walmart in a near £7 billion deal. Asda are now privately owned by the Issa Brothers, therefore are not listed on a public exchange.
