First ever ecommerce book launched by Mirakl

Mirakl have today announced the release of a new book The Online Marketplace Advantage: Sell More, Scale Faster, and Create World-Class Digital Customer Experience.

The book is authored by co-founders and co-CEOs Philippe Corrot and Adrien Nussenbaum and offers a step-by-step guide on how to launch, operate and scale online marketplaces in today’s frenetic eCommerce landscape.

Entrepreneur Adrien Nussenbaum previously founded All Instant, a New York-based instant messaging platform which sold in 2003, and SplitGames, an online video games marketplace that sold to FNAC in 2008. Over the past 20 years, Nussenbaum has built and led winning teams across the globe and generated billions in sales for customers.

We talk to Nussenbaum to find out more about the new book:

What inspired you to write the book?
My Co-Founder Philippe Corrot and I created Mirakl over a decade ago because we were certain that the future of eCommerce was with marketplaces.

At the start, we were partnering with a few visionary retailers who understood the transformative power (and impact) of marketplaces and recognized the value of what this model offered: greater agility, flexibility, scale, and profitability. We have come a long way! Today, we partner with more than 350 of the world’s leading enterprises on their marketplace strategies, including leaders like Airbus Helicopters, The Kroger Co., Macy’s Inc., Madewell, and Urban Outfitters.

What has become increasingly clear is that marketplaces are no longer optional. Every business needs to understand what their marketplace strategy looks like – and, this is why we decided to write this book. “The Online Marketplace Advantage” explains how to get started: it offers a roadmap for businesses to successfully develop and implement the marketplace strategy that works for their business.

Last year, we were approached by Wiley, the world’s leading business book publisher. They understand the momentum behind marketplaces, and want us to share our experience and  knowledge so that every business can succeed in drafting a marketplace strategy of their own.

What do you hope to achieve with the book?
“The Online Marketplace Advantage” is the first book of its kind: it offers a roadmap for businesses to launch and scale online marketplaces, quickly and rightly.

With this new book we want to share the best practices, learnings and insights that we have gained working with more than 350 businesses on their marketplace strategies. We want to take readers through the entire marketplace journey, from determining whether a marketplace strategy is right for their business, to establishing a strong foundation before launch, to scaling in the first few years and beyond.

And, there is no better way to put theory into practice than by spotlighting more than 30 industry leaders that have launched marketplaces of their own. We give an unvarnished look at their experience, the challenges they faced, the insights they gained, the failures and successes that they encountered along the way, so that any business can create a successful, scalable marketplace.

What did you learn when writing the book?
