X2 Computing Upgrades Waitrose ‘Quick Check’ service
X2 Computing has been awarded a major contract to provide the new entrance unit as part of an upgrade of the Waitrose Quick Check service in 116 shops nationwide.
Quick Check helps reduce the amount of time that customers spend at the checkout and eliminates the need for unpacking and repacking of bags and trolleys. Purchases are scanned on the way round a Waitrose shop by registered users using hand held scanners, then placed in the shopping bags and paid for at dedicated Quick Check checkouts.
X2 Computing is supplying a 12” full colour touchscreen monitor in a ventilated metal casing that can be quickly fitted to the in-store Quick Check handset racks. Each screen has a built-in magnetic card reader that will be used by registered users for identification purposes. This reader has custom designed by X2 with a longer slot that provides a more positive feel and minimises the need for customers to swipe their registered card more than once.
According to Steve Twomey, Senior Programmer at Waitrose: “X2 Computing was awarded this contract as we felt it was the best placed company to provide a bespoke solution to meet our specific requirements and deadlines. It has provided us with a cost effective upgrade that will help extend the functionality of our Quick Check service.”
