Star Micronics to launch new printer software architecture at Retail Business Technology Expo

Star Micronics launches new printer software architecture and demonstrates pos desktop and mobile printer integration with apple ios, windows and android devices at retail business technology expo 2012.

At Retail Business Technology Expo 2012 (13 – 14 March, Earls Court, London), international POS printer manufacturer Star Micronics will be launching new printer software architecture as well as demonstrating POS desktop and mobile printer integration with Apple iOS, Windows and Android devices. With an extensive range of cost saving printing solutions, Star has developed POS printers which provide dramatic power and paper saving environmental benefits.

Star ‘understands the need for fast and simplified integration in order to reduce installation and maintenance costs’.  To this end, the manufacturer has invested in developing printer software architecture to provide a unified suite of software which supports all current product installations for Star thermal and matrix printers and will cover 8 series of printers (57 models) on one CD. Star futurePRNT™ installation for all 9 TSP100 models are already on one CD.

Mobile POS printing has a number of different meanings depending on the application required. To Star, this signifies versatile print control from mobile devices/cloud computing including HTML 5 to both desktop and mobile printers using Apple iOS, Windows or Android devices. With mobile devices being increasingly used for operational purposes as well as with traditional desktop POS printers for queue busting, Star has invested in the latest printing solutions for mobile POS and will be demonstrating POS desktop and mobile printer integration with Apple iOS, Windows and Android devices.

Star has also continued to invest in its philosophy of total support with the launch of sophisticated new Android and iOS Software Developer Kits (SDKs). These unique new intuitive SDKs are already making Star printers ‘sing & dance’ to the retailer’s specifications simplifying the whole integration process; reducing time and costs for system builders, software houses and retailers with in-house IT.  With a greater array of operating systems and languages supported with organised and integrated files and actual code samples, this vastly improves on the confusing choice of zipped files available from other printer manufacturers.

Following the launch of the world’s first ECO printer – TSP100 ECO – Star continues to demonstrate its commitment to reducing IT environmental impact with the following key features on its range of printers:

– Receipt printer range certified and on Energy Star website;
– Enhanced paper saving on entire range via receipt length reduction, etc;
– A4 to A6 utility on TSP800II multi-functional printer and TUP900 kiosk printer as used by major retailers and hotels worldwide including Costa Coffee and Premier Inn. This utility is ideal for a range of administrative roles throughout the industry and, in particular, for customers wanting to combine a receipt printer with a back office printer for reporting. Furthermore, the TSP800II costs 80% less to run than an industry standard A4 laser printer and has a much smaller footprint.

As Simon Martin, Director & General Manager, Star Micronics EMEA, states, “The Retail Business Technology Expo provides Star with an excellent platform to launch its latest products.  With our investment in a range of technologies including the latest printing solutions for mobile POS, Star is clearly ahead of the game and will continue to develop solutions that demonstrate Star’s commitment to innovative POS printing technology and design.”
Star Micronics will be on stand 310
