Pay As You Go EPOS could save retailers from extinction, but few know it even exists

Retailers could be putting their survival at risk by purchasing expensive licenses for their EPOS systems, which leave them out of pocket and unable to upscale.

Independent retail IT solutions distributor CTS Retail, say that customers are particularly impressed with the cost savings associated with opting for the new to market Cost Per Transaction EPOS solutions, but many are still anxious about making the switch, thinking it must be too good to be true.

The benefits of these ‘Pay As You Sell’ EPOS solutions include zero costs when tills are not in use, no additional license fees if more tills or back office workstations are required and the ability to integrate in store and web sales if required.

Another perceived barrier for many retailers, claims Craig Wood, director of Product Development at CTS Retail, is that many mistakenly believe they need a sector specific EPOS solution, and often a premium is charged.

“A number of retailers we speak to are astounded when the realise they probably don’t need the current EPOS system they are using and that there are more flexible and less costly solutions on the market which essentially provide exactly the same functions and in many cases more. We’ve been particularly impressed with Cervello, which seems to be the only IT solution on the retail market to offer zero license fees and truly embrace the cost per transaction model,” explains Craig.

Most retailers are looking for a low-cost solution that enables them to attribute its costs directly the amount of sales they are making,” continues Craig “I believe that Cost per Transaction EPOS is the future and as it rises in popularity, more retailers will question why they didn’t choose this route earlier.”
