OmniPerception named Cool Vendor in Retail for its facial surveillance technology
Facial surveillance technology pioneered by OmniPerception has been identified as an example of an ’emerging innovation’.
OmniPerception has been named as a Cool Vendor in Retail for 2011 by information technology research and advisory company Gartner Inc.
Each year, Gartner identifies new Cool Vendors in key technology areas and publishes a series of research reports highlighting these innovative vendors and their products and services. It aims to help end users and larger vendors uncover these emerging technology innovations.
Gartner selected OmniPerception because of the potential uses of CheckPoint™ and CheckPoint.S™ facial surveillance in the retail market.
Checkpoint.S™ is surveillance technology that captures the face of a moving person and verifies their identity in seconds. Traditional face recognition technology requires the subject to stop and look directly into the camera – whereas CheckPoint.S™ captures the face from a moving subject and compares this against images already stored in an existing database.
“We are delighted to be recognised by Gartner as a Cool Vendor as it recognises the potential benefits that Checkpoint.S™ can bring, not just to the retail sector but also to a range of other sectors including law enforcement, banking and airport security,” said Stewart Hefferman, CEO of OmniPerception.
With ever increasing levels of crime, Mr Hefferman explained that CheckPoint.S™ can also be used to alert security staff of the arrival of more undesirable elements.
He added that it also has the potential to ‘inspire new ways to engage with customers and improve the shopping experience’.
