Homebase launches ‘Create the Look’ interactive media in store

DIY retailer Homebase has launched a new interactive digital media experience to help its customers visualise how their rooms would look using flooring, paints and other products that can be bought or ordered in store.

The ‘Create the Look’ technology enables customers arriving at the retailer’s Aylesford branch to upload a photo of their lounge, kitchen, bedroom or bathroom to a 32-inch digital interactive touchscreen. The customer can then personalise the room using their own choice of flooring, paint or wallpaper products or ‘Create the Look’ of their choice from scratch by using a template room.

Commenting on the new technology developed by Qmatic and HintTech, Jon Hamilton, customer service development manager for Homebase, said: “We know that technology plays a key role in allowing customers to visualise how they can transform their homes. The Qmatic-HintTech solution fits with our vision to be the first for decorating.”

The technology uses real images of flooring, paint or wallpaper, keeping the  light and shadow, and also works out the perspective of both the wallpaper and flooring.

Homebase launched ‘Create the Look’ at the opening of the Aylesford store and in the first month of trading the technology had 1,605 interactions.

The retailer operates more than 340 out-of-town stores throughout the UK and Ireland and employs 19,000 people across the business.
