Debenhams sets up virtual pop-up store at famous landmarks

Debenhams has set up a virtual store for a three day period at a number of famous landmarks throughout the UK. The pop-up stores can be found in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow from 27 to 29 October.

The landmarks include London’s Trafalgar Square and Cardiff Castle in Wales.

Shoppers viewing the landmarks through their iPhone or iPad2 screens can see the retailer’s top ten party dresses pop up around the attraction.  They can then virtually try the dresses on, order them and get them delivered to an address of their choice.

Customers can also upload the pictures of the virtual dresses they try on to Facebook or Twitter to gather feedback from ‘friends’ and followers.

The party dresses are only available at the location and, as  reward for their efforts, shoppers at each location receive a 20% discount on their purchases.

Simon Forster, Debenhams.com director said: ‘This really is the future of shopping. It brings the hassle-free element of online, with the experience of shopping in store combined with the fantastic backdrops of iconic UK locations. It is incredible what the developments in technology mean we can now do-including trying on a dress without even having to remove an item of clothing!”

The locations of the virtual stores are Trafalgar Square in London,  George Square in Glasgow, Centenary Square in Birmigham, Albert Square in Manchester and Cardiff Castle in Wales.
