Clinton Cards implements contactless technology

Cards retailer implements contactless technology with RBS WorldPay and Visa Europe

Clinton Cardshas become the latest business in the UK to go contactless in partnership with RBS WorldPay. The new contactless payment option will initially be available across 50 Clinton Cards stores in London and Liverpool from November onwards.
The Visa payWave contactless technology enables consumers to simply touch the reader with their cards and pay in less than a second. The technology is expected to help reduce queues especially during peak periods, such as lunchtime and seasonal trading.

Currently, an estimated third of all in-store transactions at Clinton Cards are made using chip and PIN payment terminals, with 150 card transactions per store on average during lunch time, a figure which increases during seasonal periods such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Using contactless technology, the time spent making these transactions should be significantly reduced.

Robert Brown Group EPOS System Manager comments,”The contactless system is very suitable for our business, as the vast majority of transactions are under £15. As the contactless system provides a faster transaction time for any payment up to £15, it will allow us to tend to a greater number of customers, which will be invaluable during peak shopping times. It will also help customers who feel uncomfortable paying by chip and PIN for small amounts when there are people waiting behind them at the checkout.”
