[ EVENT ] CDO Retail Exchange: An Exclusive Event for Retail Data Leaders

The CDO Retail Exchange aims to explore the one essential question that all Data Leaders are asking.

How do you put data at the heart of every business decision? With expert speakers, industry-leading experts, networking opportunities and thought-provoking sessions, this invitation-only event will focus on the questions that will shape the future of data in retail.

How do you put data at the heart of every business decision? This is a fundamental question all CDOs will ask their teams as they look to utilise one of the most important resources at our disposal. Data is the 21st century’s version of coal that fueled the industrial revolution; the issue is that not everyone realises that yet.

This also applies to a sector that is at a pivotal stage in its journey: retail. With the pandemic sparking into life the debate of the high street retailer, and hyper-personalisation, virtual reality, and the metaverse on the horizon, data is vital to the future of retail. It is therefore crucial that Data Leaders meet to discuss challenges, opportunities and solutions to common issues surrounding data teams in this competitive sector.

The CDO Retail Exchange plans to do just that. It is the UK’s only data community that is exclusive for retailers, where invitation-only, pre-qualified Chief Data Officers and other Data Leaders meet to explore these common issues. More importantly, it is a space where the exchange of ideas and strategies allows attendees to leave with new knowledge and strategies to overcome these barriers.

An open exchange of like-minded people, endeavouring to come together to explore experiences and promote change. A friendly environment where a healthy challenge can be had to broaden our horizons, share our knowledge and embolden each of us to take action in our own way.” Head of Data Engineering, Bupa, on CDO Summer Exchange 2022

Selected key themes that will be explored are improving data literacy and culture, utilising data to improve customer experience, hiring and retaining talent in data, assessing the best data migration and storage systems, and aligning the data department with ESG targets, amongst others.

These themes will be explored through expert speaker panels from top retailers, interactive roundtable discussions, one-to-one business meetings, fireside chats, and engaging Think Tanks.

Highlights from the current speaker panel include a panel presentation from Dr. Alexander Borek, Head of Data Analytics at Zalando on “Data Strategy in a Data Mesh World”, and a case study from Lynsey Marshall, Head of Data Adoption at M&S on their intriguing “BEAM” academy and how it nurtures a data-driven culture. A thought-provoking talk from Jack Johnson, Head of Retail Data at Ocado on “Building A Successful Data Monetisation Strategy To Increase Company Revenue” is a stand-out from day 2 at the Exchange.

There are also plenty of opportunities to network through brunch roundtable discussions, a pub-quiz evening reception, and a pre-event cocktail-making masterclass.

The CDO Retail Exchange will explore the most pressing issues surrounding Data Leaders such as hiring and retaining talent, data literacy, regulatory activity and cloud services.
