The rewards of working in Retail during Christmas
At a time when the festive season often feels overshadowed by stress, chaos, and expense, this heartwarming story offers a refreshing perspective on the joy, camaraderie and fulfilment found in working retail at Christmas.
An Aldi Store Manager has shared how working in retail during the Christmas season is the most rewarding time of year for her and her team. Amidst the hustle and bustle of holiday shoppers, Marie Frost finds herself at the heart of the festive spirit, connecting with customers and contributing to their festive experiences.
This time of year provides retail employees with a range of opportunities as they navigate a busier shopping environment. Camaraderie is built between co-workers and the rewards of retail work during this time extend far beyond the pay—offering valuable skills that last a lifetime.
Marie believes Christmas is the most fulfilling time of year to work in retail, a field she has passionately dedicated herself to for the past 25 years.
Aside from getting the first look at Aldi’s most popular Christmas products, Marie says it is her fantastic colleagues who make Christmas in retail a wonderful time of year. She commented:
“The outstanding colleagues I work with make every day enjoyable, and even the busiest of days are made fun by my team.”
Shoppers at this time of year often present unique requests, which can lead to some of the most satisfying tasks. Marie shared: “When it gets closer to Christmas, lots of people go shopping late and miss out on special products or groceries that are important for their Christmas Day or festivities. I love having the opportunity to find that item for them or finding the best alternative. The customers always appreciate it when you go the extra mile, especially at that time of year.”
With over two decades of Christmas at Aldi, Marie has experienced all aspects of the busy season in retail. She reflected: “It’s important to remember that every customer has their own story, whether it’s a family or friends to feed or if they can’t see their loved ones for whatever reason. In retail, we are an important touchpoint for people during the Christmas period, so it is imperative to treat everyone with kindness and respect, which everyone here at Aldi strives to achieve.
“Whether that’s serving with a big smile or polite conversation, we want everyone to feel their best at this time of year. It’s really special to know we can make someone’s day that bit better!”
“It is our people who make Aldi what it is”
Kelly Stokes, HR Director at Aldi UK, added: “Christmas truly is the busiest time of year and, with around 45,000 colleagues in the UK, it is our people who make Aldi what it is. We strive to provide our colleagues with the best support during this time and allow them to do what they do best.
“Aldi endeavours to deliver the best Christmas period every year to our customers and employees, for which we are very grateful.”
