Interview with Reveal Media, Official Safety Partner of The Retail Bulletin 2025
The UK retail sector has been grappling with unprecedented levels of aggression and violence towards retail staff, posing significant concerns for the industry. The Retail Bulletin (TRB) is proud to announce a key partnership with Reveal Media, solidifying their role as TRB’s official “People Safety Partner” for 2025.
The Retail Bulletin’s MD Karen Howard, recently sat down with Alasdair Field, CEO of Reveal Media, to explore the significance of their partnership and its potential impact on the retail community in the UK.
Karen Howard: Alasdair, can you describe the importance of the partnership with The Retail Bulletin and what you hope to achieve?
Alasdair Field: Having a presence in front of retailers is the most significant aspect of this partnership. We’re committed to getting our message through to as many retailers as possible and working with them to improve people safety.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Karen Howard: What unique value does your body camera solutions bring to the retail community in the UK?
Alasdair Field: Our body cameras, specifically designed for retail, have been shown to have a de-escalation effect. Their very presence tends to calm people down, and the front-facing screen enhances this effect. If the person on the other side of the lens can see they’re being recorded, it usually helps defuse tension.
Karen Howard: As our official people safety partner, it will be wonderful to see you and your team at our events and give our retailers the opportunity to interact with the cameras.
Alasdair Field: We believe it’s imperative for retailers to touch and feel our products. They are the best in class as far as design and manufacture.
Karen Howard: Do you have any statistics or case studies on the effectiveness of your solutions regarding safety?
Alasdair Field: Yes, we’ve received reports from our customers indicating a 40% to 70% de-escalation rate. One supermarket reported a 41% reduction in violent crime. In one trial with a homeware’s retailer, 100% of retail associates felt safer at work with the cameras post-trial, and 95% wanted to continue using them.
Karen Howard: These statistics are truly impressive. Considering all the work we’ve done supporting the Institute of Customer Service and The Retail Trust, this is of no surprise. The significance of this partnership lies in the alignment of our missions. We’re both dedicated to enhancing safety for staff and customers in the retail sector.
Alasdair Field: Communicating the essentials about staff safety to HR teams and the broader business is essential. We’re grateful to have the support of TRB in this especially.
Karen Howard: Partnering with Reveal Media at such a critical time for safety in retail is truly exciting. Do you think safety technology is becoming essential for employment in the sector?
Alasdair Field: Absolutely, I think it’s becoming inevitable. Employers have a fundamental duty to ensure a safe working environment, and the need to protect both mental and physical well-being is on the rise.
Karen Howard: What drives your passion for improving safety in the retail industry?
Alasdair Field: Knowing we can make a significant difference in the lives of many individuals is incredibly rewarding. As one of the largest employers worldwide, the retail sector has a unique opportunity to enhance the safety and well-being of both its workforce and wider society.
Karen Howard: It’s clear that The Retail Bulletin’s mission aligns perfectly with yours. Our focus is always on the people in retail.
Karen Howard: We’re excited to have Reveal Media actively involved in our events throughout 2025. If anyone would like to chat with the head of retail at Reveal, or schedule a meeting, please reach out to Mike [HERE], or register for any of the TRB events and meet the team there.
