Wickes like-for-like sales up 19.7% in first quarter

Travis Perkins has reported that like-for-like sales at its Wickes DIY chain climbed by 19.7% in its first quarter following a strong performance in its core ranges.

The company said the retailer performed well across a wide range of product categories after trading was driven by its digital capability and the popularity of its customer delivery and click and collect fulfilment channels.

However, ‘do-it-for-me’ sales declined by 25% in the period due to Wickes’ kitchen and bathroom showrooms remaining closed during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Travis Perkins said Wickes’ core performance across the Easter trading period remained strong.

Last month, Travis Perkins announced that it was making progress with plans to demerge Wickes as it looked ahead to the retailer’s listing on the the main market of the London Stock Exchange.
