Travis Perkins reports strong performance at Wickes and Toolstation

Travis Perkins has reported an 8.6% increase in like-for-like sales in October and November after it made good progress in retaining sales from branches closed as part of a restructuring exercise in the summer.

In a statement, the company said it has benefited from ongoing strong demand across the DIY market which has resulted in particularly strong sales at its Wickes and Toolstation businesses.

However, sales at its specialist merchants in BSS, CCF, Keyline and the large contract side of its P&H business have recovered more slowly.

Given the performance at Wickes and Toolstation, Travis Perkins has also announced that both companies will return the business rates relief received as a result of the coronavirus crisis and repay monies received under the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. This totals around £50 million.
