Topps Tiles sales down 1.4% in first quarter

Topps Tiles has said it put in a robust performance in its first quarter despite a 1.4% decline in like-for-like sales.

This compares to an increase of 3.4% in the same period in the previous year.

Matthew Williams, chief executive of Topps Tiles, said: “Against a challenging market backdrop and a strong period of performance in the prior year we believe the business has performed robustly over the first quarter. We remain excited by both the opportunity for profitable growth that our expansion into commercial segment will bring and the continued opportunity to further strengthen our market leading position overall.”

Topps Tiles now operates 367 stores after opening one shop and closing two in the 13 week period to 29 December.
