Secret Linen Store sets the standard for sustainable practices in B Corp Impact Report

Secret Linen Store, the British brand known for its high-quality bedding and home textiles, has released its first B Corp Impact Report, highlighting the company’s significant strides in sustainability, social responsibility, and governance.

As the brand celebrates a decade of growth and a recent B Corp certification, this report serves as a testament to its commitment to being a force for good in the industry.

“Creating our first-ever impact report has been one of the highlights of running our business this last decade. We are so proud of what we have achieved, and seeing our progress here in one place is magical,” commented Molly Freshwater and Harriet, co-founders of Secret Linen Store.

Setting the bar high in ethical practices

One of the key initiatives highlighted in the report is the updated Supplier Code of Conduct, which aligns with the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code and International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions. This updated code ensures that all suppliers adhere to Secret Linen Store’s core values of respect, dignity, and environmental responsibility. To maintain these standards, the company requires third-party ethical audits for all suppliers and conducts regular visits to Tier 2 sites, such as mills and dye houses, to assess conditions.

Waste not, want not: A commitment to reducing waste

In 2023, Secret Linen Store repurposed an impressive 9,336 metres of waste fabric into new products. By carefully cutting fabric and avoiding pattern matching, the company minimises waste at the production stage. Additionally, they introduced “Waste Not Want Not Packs,” allowing customers to use leftover fabrics creatively at home. This initiative not only reduces waste but also engages customers in the brand’s sustainability efforts.

Supporting suppliers and the environment

The report also outlines Secret Linen Store’s initiatives to support its suppliers in meeting environmental objectives. The brand is focused on reducing waste, water, and energy usage across its supply chain, ensuring that sustainability is a shared goal with its partners.

A ripple effect of oositive impact

Molly Freshwater, Founder and Creative Director of Secret Linen Store, expressed her pride in the company’s achievements: “We believe that true sustainability extends beyond our own operations. By supporting our partners and suppliers in their eco-friendly initiatives, we aim to create a ripple effect that benefits the entire industry.”

In addition to these efforts, Secret Linen Store has made significant contributions to various social and environmental causes. The brand employed a dedicated ‘Good Doer’ to improve practices for people, suppliers, and the planet, continued its collaboration with Choose Love by donating 100% of profits from a special range, and supported the Sussex Seabed Restoration project. The report also highlights the planting of 1,785 trees through Ecologi and achieving an 89% engagement score in their Workers Engagement survey—14% above the industry average.

Looking forward

Secret Linen Store’s Impact Report is not just a reflection of past achievements but a roadmap for the future. The brand is committed to further embedding sustainability into its core operations, setting even more ambitious goals, and leading by example in the home textiles industry.
