ScS creates hundreds of new jobs due to uplift in sales

Sofa and carpet retailer ScS is creating hundreds of new jobs around the UK to help it cope with an uplift in orders since the easing of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

The retailer has hired 150 new employees in August and is currently recruiting for a further 150 roles.

ScS increased its order intake by 92% from May to July and has continued to grow its sales in August and  September with orders up 51% over the last six weeks.

The retailer is looking to fill vacancies for both permanent and fixed-term positions in its retail stores, distribution and contact centres. Jobs available include those for sales professionals, delivery drivers, meet and greet specialists, contact centre advisors and online sales team members.

In August, ScS withdrew from the government’s furlough scheme and returned all of its staff to work. Staff members who continued to work over lockdown have been rewarded with an extra seven days of holiday entitlement.

David Knight, chief executive of ScS, said: “Due to a sharp rise in orders, we are in the fortunate position of being able to add to our existing workforce. In the six weeks leading up to September, our like-for-like order intake grew by 51%, equivalent to £19m of additional revenue. We’re delighted to be able to invest some of this into new staff members, as we continue to navigate our way through these unprecedented times.”

ScS has recently relocated its distribution team from Warrington to a larger  warehouse in Liverpool’s Knowsley.
