JYSK to open first stores in Africa
JYSK has announced another expansion milestone, this time with the opening of its first stores in Africa.
The Danish homewares and furniture retailer will be launching two shops in Casablanca, Morocco on 10 April. These will be situated in Viva Park and Aeria Mall at opposite ends of the city.
Since opening its first store in Denmark in 1979, JYSK has grown to a portfolio of more than 3,500 stores. From 10 April, customers will also be able to shop online at jysk.ma.
JYSK president and chief executive Rami Jensen said: “Expansion is part of our DNA, and we are very excited to introduce JYSK and our great offers to customers in Morocco and to see how it will be received on this new continent.”
The move means the retailer will have a presence in 50 countries, 29 of which are operated directly by JYSK, including Morocco, while the remaining 21 are operated by JYSK’s franchise business.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Jensen said: “We are very proud to reach several milestones at JYSK with our first stores in Africa and our presence in 50 countries. This shows that we are still on the right track and that our investment in expansion is a great success.”
In February, JYSK reported that over 5,000 applications had been submitted for the approximately 50 positions created so far in Morocco.
