JYSK opens first stores in Turkey

JYSK, the Danish furniture and homewares retailer, is opening its first two stores in Turkey this week as it continues to expand into new markets.

The shops will be situated in the Torium AVM and Oasis Cadde shopping malls in Istanbul.

Jan Bøgh, president and chief executive at JYSK, said: “We have long wanted to expand our business further outside of Europe, and we see great potential for JYSK in the Turkish market. Our first two stores are only the beginning of our expansion plans, as we see many opportunities for more JYSK stores in Turkey.”

JYSK will also launch an ecommerce site in the country which will offer customers an extended assortment with various delivery options.

After opening a first store in Denmark in 1979, the company now has over 3,200 shops in 48 countries. While in 28 countries stores are operated directly by JYSK, the remaining countries have a franchise-based model.

Bøgh said: “We have a strong business model that works well both in our own countries and for our franchisees. One of our biggest strengths is our small store concept, which makes it possible for us to be closer to customers and make their shopping experience as easy as possible.”
