Dobbies to digitise entire indoor and outdoor plant range

Garden centre chain Dobbies is to digitise its entire indoor and outdoor plant range for spring 2020 through a partnership with SmartPlant.

The retailer said the move is part of ongoing work to merge its online and offline offering and improve the shopping experience for customers.

Dobbies’ suppliers will be adding their plants to the SmartPlant app to help them promote their provenance, brand and specialist care tips.

Plants in-store can be activated in the SmartPlant app which will enable customers to receive rich plant content either in-store or at home. The information offered will include plant set up instructions, automated care reminders, regular tips, plant and pest identification, and expert chat.

Marcus Eyles, horticulture director at Dobbies, said  “The SmartPlant Partnership is tremendously exciting for Dobbies garden centres both from an online and offline perspective and we see enormous potential going forward. This will help us to better inform and engage our customers whilst learning from unparalleled customer insights.”
