Dobbies invites nominations for national community initiative
Dobbies, the premier garden centre in the UK, is proud to announce the launch of the Dobbies Community Gardens initiative.
This new programme is designed to assist community and charitable groups nationwide in enhancing, rejuvenating, or initiating their green areas, whether indoors or outdoors.
In a bid to spread joy across its local communities, Dobbies encourages individuals to propose community spaces that would benefit from expert gardening guidance and inspiration. The application portal is now open for submissions.
With a team of colleagues who are enthusiastic about horticulture and outdoor living, Dobbies aims to foster year-round garden-centric activities that unite people and communities. Selected by each Dobbies store from the incoming nominations, the chosen projects will gain access to a range of products, tools, and plants during a bespoke shopping experience with a Dobbies expert. Moreover, these groups will benefit from dedicated volunteer hours to help realise their garden projects.
Awardees will receive ongoing support throughout the year to maintain the vibrancy of their green spaces.
Nick Anderson, Operations Director at Dobbies, is eager to connect with groups from various locales. He comments, “Adjacent to our stores lie numerous dynamic community groups, encompassing educational institutions, local In Bloom collectives, charities, and sports clubs, among others. Our store teams are enthusiastic about embracing a new endeavour this year, and we are keen to learn about UK-wide community initiatives that could use our assistance.”
To participate, groups should be situated within a 20-mile radius of a Dobbies outlet or within five miles of a ‘little dobbies’ location. Further details on joining the Dobbies Community Gardens programme can be found on their website.
Nominees will be welcomed to their local store for an exclusive Grow How workshop at 10:30 am on Saturday, 4 May, where the winning projects will be revealed. These victorious teams will then collaborate with Dobbies’ staff dedicated to supporting their horticultural venture.
