Debenhams to partner with interiors brand Maisons du Monde
Debenhams is to partner with French furniture and homewares brand Maisons du Monde as part of its Debenhams Redesigned strategy to offer customers a selection of curated brands.
The move will see the introduction of Maisons du Monde departments offering decorative items and small furnishings in Debenhams’ Westfield, Birmingham and Manchester stores this spring.
Founded in France in 1996, Maisons du Monde operates through an omnichannel approach, with an international network of 313 stores, an ecommerce platform in 11 countries and several catalogues. In 2017, Maisons du Monde generated €1,011 million in annual sales.
The company already sells through an online store in the UK but the tie-up with Debenhams will enable it to have a presence on the high street.
Gilles Petit, chief executive of Maisons du Monde, said: “We are pleased to announce a partnership with Debenhams to open three shop-in-shops in the UK, capitalising on a flexible and capital-light strategy to launch our physical development in this market to complement our online offer. We believe that the opening of these departments with our leading partner will continue to delight UK customers.”
Maisons Du Monde has its own dedicated design hub situated in its very own French Chateau, where a 90-strong team is responsible for creating the collection.
Sergio Bucher, chief executive at Debenhams, said: “We are delighted that Maisons du Monde has chosen to work with us to launch physically into the UK. We believe that its fresh and differentiated ranges will reinforce Debenhams’ position as a major player in the UK homeware and furniture market under the leadership of our MD of fashion and home, Steven Cook”.
