Walgreens Boots Alliance names new chief executive
Walgreens Boots Alliance has announced that Roz Brewer will become its new chief executive on 15 March.
She will replace Stefano Pessina who, as previously reported, is moving to the role of executive chairman of the business.
Brewer most recently served as chief operating officer and group president at Starbucks Corporation, where she helped the company accelerate its growth strategy and extend its global reach. Prior to that, she was president and chief executive of Sam’s Club, the members-only warehouse channel of Walmart Inc.
She will also join Walgreens Boots Alliance’s board of directors when she takes up her new role.
Pessina said the board conducted an extensive search to identify the company’s new leader. He added: “We are
excited to have found that person in Roz. She is a distinguished and experienced executive who has led organisations globally through periods of changing consumer behaviour by applying innovation that elevates customer experiences – ultimately driving signicant and sustainable growth and value creation. Her relentless focus on the customer, talent development, operational rigour and strong expertise in digital and technological transformation are exactly what WBA needs as the company enters its next chapter.”
Meanwhile, Pessina will be replace Jim Skinner as executive chairman, although Skinner will remain on the board as a non-executive director to facilitate a smooth transition.
