The Perfume Shop raises over £1.6m for Alzheimer’s Research in 10-year partnership

The Perfume Shop is celebrating a decade-long partnership with the UK’s leading dementia research charity, Alzheimer’s Research UK, having raised over £1.6 million.

The milestone was marked at The Perfume Shop’s annual conference in Cardiff this October. Scott Mitchell, Alzheimer’s Research UK ambassador and husband of the late Dame Barbara Windsor, attended the event to express his gratitude and highlight the impact of their support.

Since 2014, the retailer’s staff—fondly referred to as TPS People—have passionately raised funds for dementia research through various activities. These have included in-store collections, personalised ribbon sales, running challenges, fashion shows, skydives, bungee jumps, and even a trek up Mount Kilimanjaro.

By the end of 2021, The Perfume Shop’s fundraising had surpassed £800,000, including £90,000 raised during a year when stores were closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Setting an ambitious target to reach £1 million by the end of 2022, they achieved it in under a year and have already exceeded their 2024 goal.

Over the past decade, the partnership has funded ten vital research projects, helping Alzheimer’s Research UK scientists deepen their understanding of dementia and its causes. It has also funded the charity’s InfoLine for a year, providing crucial support and answers to public questions about dementia.

This celebration comes after both The Perfume Shop and Alzheimer’s Research UK marked their 30th anniversaries. The retailer is also a proud member of the Alzheimer’s Research UK Pioneers’ Circle, which honours exceptional contributions to the charity.

Voices from the Partnership

Hilary Evans-Newton, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating ten incredible years in partnership with The Perfume Shop. Since 2014, The Perfume Shop has shown extraordinary commitment to supporting our search for a cure. TPS People have gone above and beyond, demonstrating immense dedication to fundraising, and we’ve loved working together.

“On behalf of Alzheimer’s Research UK, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to The Perfume Shop for your valued friendship over the last decade. Your dedication will help us end the heartbreak of dementia, and we look forward to seeing where the future takes us.”

Gill Smith, Managing Director at The Perfume Shop, added: “I am incredibly proud of our longstanding partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK, which has enabled us to raise over £1.6 million in the past decade. Our dedicated TPS People have shown unwavering commitment to raising awareness and funds for dementia research, and their efforts inspire me every day.

“Together, we have supported ten vital research projects and funded the charity’s InfoLine, making a real difference in the fight against dementia. I look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership and achieving even greater impact in the years ahead.”
