The Perfume Shop celebrates one year of revolutionary warehouse automation success

The Perfume Shop, the UK’s largest perfume retailer, is celebrating a year of remarkable achievements following the implementation of its groundbreaking warehouse automation system at its Dunstable facility.

The £2.5 million investment in state-of-the-art automated packaging technology has delivered impressive results over the past twelve months, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability efforts. The system has consistently achieved its promised threefold increase in order processing speed and a 40% reduction in packaging waste. Over the year, it has successfully enabled the packing and delivery of over 1 million orders to consumers.

Key achievements in the first year include:

  • Sustained threefold improvement in order processing speeds.
  • A 49% year-to-date increase in 5-star reviews on Trustpilot, attributed to enhanced customer experience.
  • A 40% reduction in packaging materials, exceeding environmental targets.
  • Improved delivery reliability and optimised distribution capabilities.
  • A significant reduction in trailer fill, contributing to lower carbon emissions.
  • Seamless integration of Breathe Technologies automation solution with existing operations.

The system, designed and implemented by Breathe Technologies, combines advanced conveyor systems, automated machinery, and Breathe Orchestra software for execution and control. It continues to set new benchmarks in retail warehouse automation, driving efficiency and sustainability for The Perfume Shop.

The Perfume Shop is committed to further leveraging this technology to enhance customer service while minimising its environmental impact in the perfume retail sector.

Sean Wallis, Supply Chain Director at The Perfume Shop, said: “The past year has demonstrated the tremendous impact of our automation investment at The Perfume Shop. We’ve not only revolutionised our operational efficiency but also made significant strides in our environmental commitments. This transformation has enabled us to process orders faster while reducing our carbon footprint, setting new standards for sustainable retail operations. The positive feedback from both our employees and customers has validated our decision to invest in this cutting-edge technology, and we’re excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.”
