Stefano Pessina to step down as CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance
Walgreens Boots Alliance has announced that Stefano Pessina is to step down as chief executive of the business and assume the role of executive chairman once his successor is appointed.
Meanwhile, Jim Skinner will step down as executive chairman but remain on the board to help ensure a smooth transition.
Pessina was appointed executive vice chairman in January 2015 following the merger between Walgreens and Boots in December 2014. He served as interim chief executive officer from January 2015 and was confirmed in the role six months later.
Commenting on the news, Pessina said: “I look forward to continuing to serve the company as executive chairman, and to helping to ensure the success of the new chief executive officer in every way possible. I am also very glad that Jim and I will continue to work together on the board, and on behalf of the entire company, we greatly appreciate all his contributions during his time as executive chairman.”
