The Prime Minister met with some of the Boots pharmacists who are playing a role in the UK’s booster vaccination roll out while visiting a Boots pharmacy in Uxbridge yesterday.
The health and beauty retailer opened its first vaccination hub at its Halifax store in January 2021 and since then has administered over 1.4 million Covid-19 vaccinations. It now offers Covid-19 booster vaccinations at over 80 pharmacies through specially created vaccination hubs or in consultation rooms.
Boots vaccination programme director Nick Sunderland said: “We are so proud of our pharmacists who have worked incredibly hard to support the national effort to accelerate the Covid-19 booster vaccination programme. It is thanks to them that we have been able to increase our appointment capacity and it is great to have the Prime Minister recognise the important role that community pharmacy has played in the success of the Covid-19 vaccination programme to date.”
To help accelerate the uptake of Covid-19 booster jabs, since December Boots has doubled appointment capacity at existing sites and also added a small number of new sites.
Boots Uxbridge store manager Karthick Chakrapani added: “Our patients tell us that they value the opportunity to get their booster at their local pharmacy – it is convenient and an environment they are already familiar with.”
