Boots recycles over a tonne of plastic in two months
Boots has said a new scheme introduced with No7 in September has resulted in over one tonne of plastic being recycled in just under two months.
The scheme allows customers to deposit empty health, beauty and wellness products in 50 stores nationwide. The retailer said over 30,000 customers have now signed up to the programme which recycled over 100,000 empty products in the two-month period. Some of the most popular items deposited include toothpaste, mascara and hand wash.
Customers sign up to the scheme via Scan2Recycle technology and receive £5 worth of Boots Advantage Card Points when five products are deposited.
The deposited products are sent to Boots’ recycling partner ReWorked where some have already been formed into new items such as reusable storage containers that are now being used at Boots’ warehouses.
Joanna Rogers, commercial director & VP, beauty & gifting at Boots UK, said: “Our customers are more aware than ever before of their impact on the environment and they are taking proactive steps to mitigate this. At Boots we are constantly challenging ourselves to do more, and as part of our commitment to becoming a more sustainable business we’re super excited to see the impact this scheme has had in such a short period of time.”
