Ximon Lee crowned winner of this year’s H&M Design Award
Fashion retailer H&M has crowned 24 year-old Ximon Lee as the winner of its H&M Design Award 2015.
A graduate of Parsons in New York, Lee is the first menswear designer to receive the award. His winning collection was presented at a fashion show during Fashion Week Stockholm. The prize also included €50,000 and the chance to develop pieces to be sold at selected H&M stores and online later this autumn.
Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design for new development, said: “Ximon’s collection captivated the jury with its contemporary yet poetic mood, with a strong feeling for fabric and an incredible attention to detail.”
Originally from Hong Kong but now based in New York, Lee was selected as the winner by a nine-strong international jury in London. The judges included the likes of Marc Jacobs design director Luella Bartley, British Vogue fashion director Lucinda Chambers, Mytheresa.com buying director Justin O’Shea and singer Lily Allen.
Bartley said: “I think he is an incredible accomplished designer. He had everything; his research was beautiful, the fabric development was really accomplished and his design was good.”
