Wincanton secures deals with B&Q and Jack Wills

Supply chain solutions provider Wincanton has announced in its interim management statement that the group’s trading performance was in line with expectations in the period from 1 April.

Wincanton revealed that it had  secured a renewed deal to supply operations for B&Q as well as winning a new contract with preppy fashion brand Jack Wills.  The group’s mainland European business has started the year well and the group said it continued to make good progress in developing its business pipeline with potential new customers.

However, problems affecting the UK retail industry had impacted trading.  The company statement said: “Trading conditions remain challenging in certain areas, including containers where volumes have been lower than expected.  We have also been impacted by the closure of Focus DIY, a long term customer of the Group.”

Wincanton said that the sale of its three European businesses, announced at the time of its preliminary results in June 2011, was “progressing”.

The group works with 22 retail clients throughout the UK and Europe including Somerfield, Tesco, Waitrose and Auchan.
