Wilko hires new chief financial officer

Wilko has appointed Alex Russo as its chief financial officer.

Russo will join the business later this year from Asda where he has been working as chief financial officer for the past five years.

Wilko said the move will support the next stage of its growth strategy. Russo will join a board which includes family director Lisa Wilkinson, executive director Sean Toal and non-executive directors John Jackson, Robin Terrell and Dalton Philips.

His appointment coincides with Wilko’s latest medium-term business plan which will be launched later this year.

Wilkinson said: “Alex’s breadth of business and finance experience complements and strengthens our existing leadership team nicely and means we can continue into the next chapter of our transformation programme with even greater confidence.”

Russo has more than 20 years’ experience of financial leadership positions in the retail sector including senior roles at Tesco, Kingfisher and Boots.

Commenting on his new role, he said: “I’ve been a fan of Wilko and admired its business model over the years and I’m personally excited to not only be joining a great team, but also help the business achieve its vision for 2030 and 100 years, which is to successfully meet the needs of Wilko families at home.”

Liz Collins will continue as Wilko’s interim chief financial officer until Russo joins the business.
