Wiggle launches Dutch website following surge in international sales
Wiggle, the online cycle and tri-sports retailer, has launched its new Dutch website in response to its growing international sales.
This is the sixth version of the Wiggle website, with the site already available in English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese.
Martin Talbot, Wiggle’s director of marketing, said: “When looking at international markets Holland is an obvious choice for us. The Dutch are fanatical about bikes so this is a great opportunity for Wiggle to enter the market and offer Dutch customers the chance to experience the full range and service that Wiggle customers elsewhere in the world know and love.”
He added: “We have tailored the site to a Dutch audience by offering iDeal, which is one of the most popular payment methods in Holland.”
The launch follows the news that Wiggle’s pre -tax profit rose from £7.1 million to £10.2 million in the year to January 2011, driven by a 123% increase in international sales. Wiggle’s appointment of investment bank Rothschild to carry out a strategic review in May has led to speculation that the retailer may be considering a flotation or sale of the business, with a potential £200 million price tag.
Wiggle started out as ‘Butlers Cycles’ in 1920, a small independent bike shop in Portsmouth. After initial success selling bike parts and other items online, Wiggle was officially launched in 1999. The company now delivers to more than 70 countries worldwide.
