Wiggle appoints Brian McBride as chairman

Online cycle retailer Wiggle has appointed former Amazon.co.uk managing director Brian McBride as its new chairman.

Due to take up his new position on 26 March, he succeeds Andy Bond who is stepping down to focus on other business ventures after four years in the role.

McBride is currently chairman of online fashion retailer ASOS and was managing director of Amazon.co.uk from January 2006 to January 2011. He is currently a senior non-executive director at Computacenter and AO World and is a member of the UK Government’s Digital Advisory Board.

Bond said: “I’m proud of Wiggle’s threefold growth during my time chairing the business. I hand over the chairmanship to Brian with Wiggle now clearly established as the number one specialist cycling retailer.”

McBride added: “I look forward to working with the team at Wiggle as it builds its e-commerce strategy and grasps the opportunity provided by global e-tailing. I believe the move to online is as relevant and game-changing in the global cycling and tri-sports market as it is in every other category I have worked with.”

Wiggle is owned by the Bridgepoint private equity firm which acquired the business in December 2011.
