WH Smith’s full year results to be ‘in line with expectations’

In a trading update ahead of the announcement of its full year results, book and stationery retailer WH Smith has said its results for the year to 31 August are likely to be in line with expectations.

It also reported that its stores at airports and railway stations have performed well both in the UK and oveseas.

The company said its store opening programme is going according to plan after it launched eight stores in Terminal 4 at Madrid Airport in mid-August and the first of six stores at Rio de Janeiro.

WH Smith now has 286 stores open internationally as it looks for further opportunities in the international news, books and convenience travel market.

The company also revealed that its high street stores are performing in line with expectations as they continue to make cost savings and margin improvements. WH Smith is currently investing in new store format trials and is also developing its stationery ranges.
