WH Smith to open airport stores in Rio de Janeiro
WH Smith’s travel business is teaming up with Duty Free Americas to open seven stores in Rio de Janeiro’s Rio Galeão International airport as part of plans to enter South America.
Rio Galeão is Brazil’s second largest international airport with over 16 million passengers.
Due to open in August, the new stores will feature WH Smith’s latest contemporary store design concept with elements of localisation.
Louis de Bourgoing, WH Smith’s international chairman, said: “This is a significant win for us as we prepare to open our first stores in South America. We look forward to working with the team at Rio Galeão and to open seven stores in such a prestigious airport with strong development plans and potential for passenger growth.”
Situated across the international departures, domestic departures and main entrance areas of the airport, the stores will offer books, magazines, travel accessories, souvenirs, confectionery and drinks, with tailored ranges for Rio Galeão’s passengers and staff.
WH Smith has a growing airport business with over 280 stores across 74 airports worldwide, including London Heathrow, Dublin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Dusseldorf, Roma, Alicante, Athens, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Delhi, Singapore, Sydney and Melbourne.
