WH Smith starts year on track

WH Smith says the current year has started as expected with like-for-like sales for the first ten weeks flat.

Combined like-for-like sales were down 1 per cent. High Street like-for-like sales fell 2 per cent.WH Smith Travel sales were 1 per cent higher in the period, though excluding tobacco it was up 3 per cent. “Whilst we remain cautious about the consumer environment and anticipate competitive trading in our markets over the key Christmas period, the current financial year has started as we expected,” WH Smith said.
