WH Smith says results will be in line with expectations

WH Smith is expecting its results for the year to 31 August to be in line with expectations.

In a pre-close trading statement ahead of announcing the results in October, the company reported that its travel business has performed well and that its new store opening programme is on track both in the UK and overseas. Looking ahead, it also sees further opportunities to grow its news, books and convenience format in the international travel retail market.

Speaking about its high street stores business, the company said it is performing in line with expectations as it continues to focus on cost savings and margin improvements. It is also developing its successful stationery business through the launch of new ranges and the allocation of new space in-store.
