WH Smith says full year results to be in line with expectations
WH Smith has said it expects its full year results to be in line with expectations as it reported that its shops in travel locations such as airports and rail stations are continuing to deliver a “strong” performance with “good” sales across all of its channels.
In a pre-close trading update, the book and stationery retailer said its new store opening programme for the travel business in the UK and overseas is in line with plan.
It has now opened its first three stores in Italy at Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports and at Turin airport.
The company said: “We continue to see further opportunities in the international news, books and convenience travel market.”
WH Smith also gave an update on its high street business which it said is continuing to perform in line with expectations. It added: “Cost savings and margin improvements have been delivered in line with our profit focused strategy.”
